Day 4 in far far away land...

i am getting so jelak of the food here... every morning the hotel has been serving extremly salty bacons, sausages, watery scramble eggs, cheese, fruits and yogurts for breakfast. And as for me, i am really not used to eating fruits early in the morning. so it's bacon and cheese for me. its so fattening and unhealthy. i can see my face bloating up by the day.

And i was almost a roadkilled yesterday while walking over to mango-mng shopping area yesterday. folks here are all wreckless drivers and its also said so in the travel guide. i was almost a scrambled egg on the road. i heard the car speeding over and its scheeching tires stopping about 10cm from me. the idiot driver was smiling. and i had a heart attack.

Anyway, yesterday evening we returned to the castle to capture unfinished spots. we took about 500 photos yesterday :D but nah, i m jst gonna randomly post a few.

checkout the - Royale Turkey :D
a marking of us in Portugese egg tart landdd! -it's actually custard tart, but back in m'sia it's made of egg.
at the St. George Castle...

the castle oversees the entire Lisbon city and its shorelines..

was almost sunset again, so we set off the castle.. and walked back to the hotel enjoying the night views of Lisbon..

Day 2 & Day 3 in far far away land...

I was really wrong about the gloominess and dullness of Lisbon city afterall... after discovering the other part of Lisbon when kangyih's portugese colleagues droved us out for dinner last night.

It seems that Portugal is famous for both its ancient and modern world combined in 1 city. The modern part of Lisbon was so beautiful and it was a pity my camera could not capture night scene well. It was so amazing, beyond any words i could use to describe the modern city. never seen such advance and modern architectures, buildings, city.

So anyway, now back to the ancient part of Lisbon, till i charge my camera for the modern Lisbon city this weekend.

Day 2

On our way to Santa Apolonia to get lost in Alfama... and to discover St. George Castle.

and along the way, we passed by the military museum, which we will not enter until we get the tourist pass this weekend :D

along the way to Alfama... and we were lost.

by the time we reached the castle it was almost sunset, and we were chased away by the guard. but later we met another nicer guard who told us we could come back tomorrow using the same pass, just to tell the other guard his name. -hope that works. will be returning to the castle later today. and here are some shots we took before the guard chased us away..

check this out, the moon on the side is always bigger and brighter!! hahaha it's true afterall... moon was like 50cent m'sian coin and super bright... could lit up the pathway. really pretty!

A random shot of us when we were lost, didnt know how to get back down to the city by foot. it was almost dark, and we couldnt see the map.. so we just walked and walked and walked.

and stumbled upon this famous monastery or a church, known as 'Se'. - only foundout when I saw it in the travel book later when i was back in the hotel. after walking a distance, we miraculously reached Baixa and enjoyed it's romantic night view. some of the food we had for dinner. each meal on average cost us about 40-50Euros. about RM200-250 per meal! i missssss m'sian food. for that price i was paying, i could get 1 table of 7-8 dish in a proper chinese restaurant. Abalone and sharkfin also can! and finally we found the subway and were on our way back to the hotel!!

Day 3

this is another famous monastery known as Jeronimos. Was built more than 500 years ago, and it took about 50 years to built..

now i can proudly challenge everyone, 'yes! the moon on the other side's bigger and brighterrr!!!' :D

guess what? i m in a far far away land....

Hey girls…

I did the craziest thing in my life last Friday. Kangyih confirmed his training dates and location in Portugal on Friday morning (3rd July 2009) and I, bought an air ticket to Portugal on Friday (3rd July 2009) evening at 6pm and flew off to Portugal on Saturday night (4th July 2009). I packed in less than 12 hours with NO itinerary, NO plans, NO maps, NO IDEA what I was getting into. all i knew was, there aint gonna be that many chances for me to fly to uncommon land like Portugal with accomodation paid for.. and most importantly, i had 2 choices, both gonna lead to an unforgetful birthday in 2009 :-

1) To spend my Birthday in Europe :)

2) or To be ALONE on my Birthday because my family and Ky's not going to be around and i will have to ask sinlee&bf or you girls to babysit me from being home alone on my bday, and chances are, you girls may not be free too and then I will feel like a sad forgotten and unwanted child on my bday. that's the worst it can go la.

so i hastily chosed option 1.

oh well, who in the world goes to Portugal anyway when there's Paris, Spain, Venice, Belgium, London, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, ....etc??

I will be in Lisbon from 4th July until 14th July, and then in Amsterdam from 15th until 17th July 2009. what an adventure! i cried when i left home, omg. this is the first time i am leaving home for so longg and to a so far far away land from home when got swine flu all over the place. i was really out of my mind!

we arrived at Schiphol airport, Amsterdam at 5.30am Amsterdam's time... notice the bright sunlight? back in m'sia at 5.30 am, it's still dark dark outside... i was really like a kampung girl 1st time to city. :D

After waiting for almost 4 hours in the airport for transit, we finally departed Amsterdam for Lisbon.

This is Amsterdam's sky view.

and after another 3 hours of aching back and painful buttocks for sitting at 95° degrees, we were finally touching down at Lisbon.

I suppose Portugal only has one rooftop supplier. The entire country has the same rooftop color :O

so exlains... here i am in Lisbon after 13 hours of flight, 4 hours of transit and another 3 hours of flight from Amsterdam to Lisbon!

and just because we are asians, and we obviously look like tourist, the stupid cab driver charged us 30€ (RM 150!!!!) for a 10 minutes ride from the Airport to Hotel. Now i am fully out there to support our local cabbies to go without meter, charge them 100X more than it's meant to!! go go go!!! paybacckkk for usss asianss!!!

now let me share with you my Day 1 experience in Lisbon... "Hello Lisbon" :D

it's a scary town in Lisbon, grafiti all over the place, ppl here have dark dark eye brow and it looks gloomy on the street..maybe because it was a Sunday. Was like a dead silence town. no shops open, women and men smoking along the streets, no smiles, no greetings. no white lights here, the entire country only has yellow dim lights. windy along the streets and leaves falling form the sky. and the worst was, no water is given by the hotel, and with no kettle too. they charge us for water, each bottle is 1.50€ = RM 7.50.

apart from the gloomy environment, now...let me share my lil' adventures all in a day...

we started touring Lisbon by foot with a map given by the hotel after we chucked our luggage in the room...

First Destination : Baixa and Avenida

meet....Marques Pombal the monument!

Along the streets of Avenida da Liberdade

Praca dos Restauradores

Rossio
Praca da Figiueira

when this beggar blow the flute, these dogs sleeps ..like what they do to the snakes in india Elevador de Santa Justa... - this is not a normal elevator, it brings you from up to another 'street' known as Largo do Carmo. When we come out from the elevator, it is another street, another town.

360° Views from Elevador de Santa Justa...

and finally i malas to upload already... random la... europe supposed to be canggih advance country, the internet connection is 11mbps. (?!) this trip really made me appreciate m'sia soooo much moreee!

okay lar.. i shall go read the travel guide to see where to next... I will probably be updating the blog daily for the next 5-6 days... gonna do it 1st thing i wake up in the morning...

i miss home, i miss my mom's soup, i miss fried veggie, i miss fried ayam goreng, i miss chee cheong fun, i miss bak kut teh, i miss keuy teow teng... omg, and it's only the first day in far far away land.
